Fall has officially arrived and soon enough those colder temperatures and snow storms are going to begin to creep in. Winter is just three months away and it is important to begin to prepare for that harsher weather now. Bad weather is the main reason roofs are damaged and it primarily happens during the winter. Fox Business published an article titled “Protecting Your Home from Old Man Winter” that provides some great tips that will help avoid roof damage.
If your home is surrounded by trees, examine the perimeter to see if there are any branches that hang too close to your roof. Heavy snow and harsh winds can cause these branches to ruin your roof. Also, check the flashing on your roof to prevent water from seeping through. Piping that is exposed to colder weather need to be properly insulated. Unfortunately, harsh weather can still create roof damage even after preventive measures have been taken. If you find yourself in this situation, contact Willamette for any of your roof repair needs.
